When I look back over the last 30 years, I think that being a business owner is something I always saw in my future. Business was something that came naturally.
When I was in my 20s, I was a store manager. I learned many of the ins-and-outs of running a store and employees. While the other functions of a business I had to learn later through much self-study.
When my children were younger, I made several attempts at starting a business without much success. I still had so much to learn at that point. However, I didn’t give up my pursuit. In fact, through those failed attempts, I learned some valuable lessons that I managed to retain to get me to this point.
In October of 2019, I finally felt the pull to utilize my strengths to start a business. I even sat down and created a business plan and expanded. That business is still going to this day, and it has the potential to grow even more despite the many twists, turns, and redirects in focus.
This business? This is starting new. An opportunity to step back, take from that business the parts that are me, and create something fresh and new. (But that’s something for a later post)
When I was given the opportunity to step away from teaching, I needed a place to focus my energy. I had the opportunity to start over and build from scratch the kind of studio I wanted. This, in itself, provided me the opportunity to take my business- The Pink Shovel Studio- and create something that is all me. So come along for the ride as I build up this business.
